Dr. Mehmet Oz is the doctor responsible for telling us how to be healthy and basically broke down medical terminology in a way that non-doctors could understand. He got his B.A. at Harvard University before obtaining an MD and MBA from the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine and the Wharton School.

Before he made his first appearance on the Oprah Winfrey show, Dr. Oz practices medicine as the Director of the Heart Assistance Device Program and founder of the Complementary Medicine Program at New York- Presbyterian Hospital, as well as teaching as a Professor of Cardiac Surgery at Columbia University.

His popularity as Oprah’s go-to doctor on the show is most likely attributed to his frank, friendly demeanor and likeability. As a viewer, I actually enjoyed his appearance on the show because he knew what he was talking about and stated useful medical information in a way that all of us viewers could benefit. He went on to write New York Times bestsellers including YOU: On a Diet and YOU: The Owner’s Manual.

May 12th was his last day on the Oprah Winfrey show, but don’t fret as you can catch him on the “Dr. Oz Show,” starting on September 14th.
