Prop 8 Decision Upheld; Gay Marriage Banned

The California Supreme Court upheld their decision on Prop 8 this morning, banning same sex marriage in the State of California after a hearing from both sides. Rallies and marches had already been planned to start directly after the decision was carried out at 10am. The Courts have stated that they will continue to recognize the more than 18,000 married same-sex couples who were married before the prop 8 decision went into effect.

According to the LA Times, Gay rights activists are already planning on fighting this decision by asking voters to repeal the marriage ban by as early as next year. The initial prop 8 decision last November only passed with a 52-48 vote, thus making it one of the closest and controversial initiatives on the ballot. Expect to see more protests and gay rights activism in your community if you live in the state of California.

  1. you would think if a state like Iowa can get it right, that California could too. sad news.

  2. they didnt vote on it in iowa. it was passed in the house without voter consent. the majority of the people in iowa are opposed to it, too.
