As a teenager, I lived in France as an exchange student and remember how confused I was by the lack of snacking and how the women there seemed to have an air of sophistication and that infamous “Je ne sais quoi,” as they bit into croissants and drank full-fat lattes as well as eating rich cheeses. Let’s not forget those buttery tartes aux pommes. (Apple tarts)
I, on the other hand, was looking for the Diet Cokes and didn’t know how I’d live with this French family without my artificially sweetened can of goodness.
Well, Mireille Guiliano, author of “French Women Don’t Get Fat: The Secret of Eating for Pleasure,” and former CEO of Cliquot, Inc. experienced much success with the aforementioned 2005 book as she detailed ways in which French women can eat high calorie foods and still maintain their slim physiques.
It was also recently announced that French Women Don’t Get Fat is also a website which Guiliano says is…
“a site for anyone who wants to infuse her (or his) life with a bit – or even a lot! – of the joie de vivre and wisdom of French women.”
I did enjoy reading the book that had diet tips such as eating real yogurt, using portion control while eating real foods, and also having a more relaxed attitude towards food. But a website?? What do you think?
