I’m not sure how you all feel, but I’ve come to love internet shopping a little more than real world shopping. The last time I was in an H&M, discombobulated by neon hoodies and sea green peep toe shoes, I wanted to shout, “Can I just see where the black sweaters and skirts are? Is there some kind of search box for this?”  Yeah, I’m curmudgeonly like that.

Internet shopping also lets you at least rhetorically expand your horizons without any guilt. You can go into the rainbow tube top section on the Forever 21 website and not buy anything.  You can look at 4 inch platforms for twelve minutes on Zappos.com without anyone knowing you ever even thought of buying such things.  So when I’m on a website, I like to dig deep and surf hard. And when you do that, sometimes you come up with this:

who-wears-this-crap-1

What. Is. This.  It is a dress primarily composed of a bow and two big ruffles!  Apparently you are supposed to top it with a straw cowboy hat because nothing reminds me more of the cowboys and the old west like a bow on your bosom and two ruffles at your thighs.  And lest you think I am making fun of something you cannot buy, you COULD purchase this outfit at the time of my discovery. It seems to have sold out since then!

Styles like this just seem to infantilize a grown woman. The cut off age for this is probably 15. Yesstyle.com is a website geared primarily toward Asian women too, and I’m not sure what to make of this. We’re already pretty short and tiny! A style like this would send you right back to junior high.

So. Seriously. Who wears this stuff anyhow? Would you wear it? Where are you going? What will you eat when you get there?  We need details.  Let us know!

I personally think it's a growing trend in Japan. China isn't necessarily known for much more than productivity, so it's up to the Japanese and the Koreans to develop their trends, technology and apprehension for the cell phones that are far more advanced than anything we see here in the US And one of the things that's slowly coming into the world is the integration of what once was counter culture into the mainstream. How many times do you see YUPIs coming out of Hot Topic with a small bag and a trendy shirt? Diversity is becoming the new Mainstream or in many cases like New York and California. It already has. Elegant Gothic Lolita is a Fashion Trend, mostly seen in the Harajuku Sector of Tokyo. And people are integrating it into styles of today. It'd be pretty obvious to see this in YesStyle, but at the same time. It's also coming up and integrating in H&M and other clothing stores. Remember before they had Corset or Corset Inspired Ideas in the stores? And now apparently it's a new thing. But a lot of these are being brought back from the English Victorian styles that once prevailed long ago. Being brought back by Eccentric Japanese Teenagers. Something that pushes this, are Rockbands like Dir En Grey and Asagi D, Gackt in Japan whose Visual Kei style of clothing are pushing several Japanese people (and culturally minded Americans) to want be part of the Victorian Era styled clothing. Called "Elegant Gothic Lolita" or EGL. This outfit you've picked up here, is definitely inspired by EGL or a derivative called Sweet Lolita. Hitting the Mainstream, just like Jeans and Bell Bottoms once did. And you've got to admit. As funky and weird looking as it might be, it's pretty cute. Of course it doesn't make sense. Wearing Torn jeans never made sense. Or Micro Bikinis. But no one complains about that. They present a look. The functionality IS the fashion. Like popped collars (shudders) http://images.google.com/images?hl=en&client=firefox-a&rls=org.mozilla%3Aen-US%3Aofficial&um=1&sa=1&q=Elegant+Gothic+Lolita&btnG=Search+Images&aq=f&oq= Some EGL reference
