The new Calvin Klein Billboard in the SoHo district of New York City is catching flack for its inappropriate threesome concept. Many residents are complaining the image is way too pornorgaphic and that the models are younger than they look. Calvin Klein, who’s known for placing risque billboard ads in big cities everywhere, may have gone a bit to far with this one.
The Calvin Klein spokesman said they were going for a more provocative look in this ad. “Intention was to create a very sexy campaign that speaks to our targeted demographic.” In the past, Calvin Klein has had celebrities from Eva Mendes to models like Rishi Idnani pose half naked with very little criticism.
I definitely think Calvin Klein should rethink their marketing strategy with this ad campaign. It is way too explicit to have on SoHo. I think if they would have had this in a more “adult” area of the city, it wouldn’t have gotten as much backlash.
