Summer used to be the wasteland of television. Now it’s NBC. (OMG, kidding, kidding, please hire me on one of your shows.) But with cable networks like ABCFamily, TNT and USA beefing up their schedules, we’ve got a nice little smorgasbord to hold us over til fall. Here are my picks of the new ones…there’s no need to go outside for sunshine or nature – stay on that sofa!
10 THINGS I HATE ABOUT YOU – ABC Family

Premieres Tues, July 7 @ 8 PM
Based on the hit 1999 movie, we’re back at Padua High with sisters Kat (Lindsey Shaw) and Bianca (Meaghen Jette Martin). Kat’s a hater, Bianca’s a cheerleading hopeful – and Bianca can’t date until Kat does. BUT, when someone as smoking hot as Patrick Verona (Ethan Peck) starts brooding all up in Kat’s grill, things might be looking up for Bianca – and Cameron, the stuttering nerd who pines for her. Larry Miller is back as doctor dad (woot!), and you’ll love to hate Gabrielle Union look-a-like Dana Davis as Chastity. I wish my high school was this hilarious. (Ethan…I’m single.)
ROYAL PAINS – USA

Thursdays @ 10 PM (watch the premiere online if you missed it)
Adorable Mark Feurstein stars as Hank Lawson, a hotshot New York doctor whose career flatlines (see what I did there?) when he loses a patient. His brother Evan (Paulo Costanzo) drags him to a party where he saves a life – and clinches his new role as doctor-on-call for all of the Hamptons’ royalty.
HAWTHORNE – TNT

Tuesdays @ 9 PM
TNT’s pimping this show as the next CLOSER, with Jada Pinkett Smith starring as another strong female who kicks ass and takes names – only for her, it’s in the hospital. She Christina Hawthorne, a dedicated nurse who throws herself into her work while struggling with her personal life; her husband died of cancer a year ago, leaving her to balance her career with raising a teenage daughter. Joining her at the hospital are Michael Vartan, Suleka Matthew, David Julian Hirsch and Christina Moore.
