To Milk or Not Milk

drink-milk-1

Dairy is a pretty touchy subject these days. Everyone has their own opinion as to if it’s really beneficial or not and debates have known to be heated.

While some would argue that it it is unnatural for us humans to drink the milk of another species, we have to look as history as our guide and see why – while it might be unnatural to some – we have been drinking it for hundreds and hundreds of years now. This is not a new concept. Drinking cow’s milk has been around for quite some time.

Dairy does produce some adverse side effects in some, just as soy and gluten can also produce side effects in those allergic to them. We are all different with different working machines, and what works for some may not work for the other. Does dairy affect everyone in this way? No. Many people feel wonderful after drinking milk or eating ice cream. It is important to note that these reactions happen in some but not all.

Is dairy linked to cancer? Isn’t that the question of the hour. My answer is simply I don’t know. I’m not a doctor and I’ve never seen a newspaper headline explicitly stating “dairy found to trigger cancer”. Until I do, I don’t think I’ll give up my Greek yogurt or ice cream.

  1. So some people like milk and some people don’t? Amazing. Some people say stuff but there is no scientifitc proof? Imagine that. How can you just throw questions at us and not give us any answers? If you dont have the answer to something, dont write about it. I learned nothing from this

  2. Hey WTF…. you’re a douche… all she is saying is open your eyes and your mind and stop being so f-ing angry at the world.

  3. I really like Almond Milk from trader Joes.. great supplement!

  4. Almond milk is the best! Especially in iced coffee.

  5. I think it’s important to note, too that newspaper headlines written by journalists with little to no scientific background attempting to summarize what is usually sketchy science in the first place might not be the best place to get your info and make these decisions. Between the FDA, big food corps, and the media, we have some serious integrity issues regarding nutritional research and reporting. For more in depth info, I highly recommend (even *urge*) you to pick up a copy of Michael Pollan’s In Defense of Food.

Other than that, I understand wha Jenna is trying to say here. Keep an open mind and *don’t* just listed to whatever is “in” in the (sometimes rather disfunctional) world of nutrition.
