LUNA Makes Cookies!? Be Still My Growling Stomach

luna-bar-1

There are precisely 3,491,851,984 different kinds of health/energy/meal replacement bars on the market.  Some get bad raps for being too sugary, too high in calories, or too devoid in nutrition, and, well, rightly so.  Often these bars end up resembling more of candy bar than a well balanced snack.

For the average exerciser (non-competitive athletes) bars can be split into two categories- snacks to give extra nutrients and energy to tide you over between meals or to refuel after workouts, and meal replacement bars that, naturally, take the place of a meal when you are in a rush.  These contain all of the nutrients and calories you need from a meal, wrapped up in a tiny portable bar.

CLIF bar, the company that brings you LUNA bars, has introduced a new addition to the LUNA family: LUNA Cookies. I know, its pretty exciting.

Contrary to the name, they aren’t actually cookies like you’d imagine.  The little guys more resemble their Daddy CLIF Bars, than Mommy LUNA Bars in appearance and consistency.  LUNA Cookies are nutritionally the dieter’s perfect after-workout snack.  They are low in calories, around 130-150 depending on flavor, so you won’t undo your workout.  LUNA Cookies are made with whole grains, which are perfect for refueling your body after a good workout, a little protein for repairing muscle tissue, and some fat for cellular repair.  These little guys contain no artificial sweeteners, and no trans fat. They are also a great source of calcium, folic acid, fiber and Omega-3s.  Yeah, this definitely isn’t your average cookie.

While LUNA Cookies do not contain enough calories or nutrients to take the place of a meal, they are a healthy choice for a post workout snack, or nutritious treat to curb a sweet craving.

LUNA Cookies come in the following flavors:

Chocolate Mint- 130 calories, 9 grams whole grains, 2.5 grams fat, 4 grams fiber, 11 grams sugar, 3 grams protein. I’d call this one the “healthy Thin-Mint.”  It’s like a mint brownie, a real one, fudgy and satisfying while still sneaking in those health benefits. Perfect for a late night sweet craving without the guilt.

Berry Pomegranate- 140 calories, 9 grams whole grains, 2.5 grams fat, 4 grams fiber, 11 grams of sugar, 3 grams protein. This is my favorite flavor.  If love Nutrigrain bars but hate that they have absolutely no nutritional value whatsoever, these are perfect for you.  It’s chewy, fruity, and surprisingly filling.

Peanut Butter Chocolate-  150 calories, 6 grams of fat, 3 grams fiber, 10 grams sugar, 4 grams protein. This is definitely the most indulgent of the flavors.

Become a cookie LUNA-tic. Guilt free, healthy cookies and just as satisfying as the real thing.  Why would you reach for real cookie ever again?
