Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen

transformers-1

The big bad bots actually morphed onto screens this past Wednesday, beating the first-day totals of Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix and and raking in over 60 million dollars – trailing only The Dark Knight for the biggest opening day in history. It’s expected to stomp all over the rest of the box office this weekend, despite the fact that most critics claim it’s a big, shiny piece of crap. Terrorist toys threaten to take over the universe, Shia LaBeouf runs around being a stubbly hero, Megan Fox wears short shorts and a bunch of stuff blows up. At least you know what you’re getting yourself into.

My Sister’s Keeper

Bring your econo-pack of tissues. Cameron Diazand Abigail Breslin star in this drama about a couple that conceives a child in the hope that her bone marrow can save her very sick sister. When the girl sues her parents for emancipation, they become embroiled in a court case that could tear them apart forever. Adapted from the book by Jodi Piccoult, My Sister’s Keeper is likely to attract everyone who doesn’t want to see Transformers 2 – and probably make them cry so much they want to see terrorist toys take over the universe and blow a bunch of stuff up.
