In the Julia Roberts film “Runaway Bride,” she played a character that got all the way to the alter and literally sprinted her way out of the church.
That’s not what happened with current NBA star Richard Jefferson, but it’s about as close as one gets in real life.
According to the New York Post, Jefferson, who used to play for the New Jersey Nets, broke up with his fiance Kesha Ni’Cole Nichols in June when he was traded to the San Antonio Spurs. Nichols then called all her friends to tell them the bad news.
Jefferson, however, did not and all of his friends continued to make plans to attend his wedding at the Mandarin Oriental hotel in New York City. It wasn’t until TWO HOURS before the wedding that Jefferson told his friends, who had begun arriving at the hotel, that the wedding was off.
To smooth everything over, he gave his friends the numbers for his American Express Black Card and said the night was on him. Sources at the hotel told the Post it was put to “good use.”
Guys being forgetful isn’t something news. Guys who make millions of dollars dumping ridiculously beautiful women isn’t anything new either. The real question, though is, how close to Jefferson were these so called “friends” that they didn’t know the couple was broken up? Wouldn’t the fact that he got traded to San Antonio and broke up with his fiance maybe raised a red flag?
We think Richard Jefferson is less the runaway groom than his friends are just plain stupid.
