Actor Ryan O’Neal appeared exclusively on NBC’s “The Today Show” Tuesday morning to discuss the loss of his longtime partner, Farrah Fawcett.

“I said I’d see her soon,” O’Neal said of his last few moments with the actress. “And I see her every day. And I write to her. I write in my journal now, to her.”

O’Neal spent several months at Fawcett’s side while she battled with cancer. She passed away on June 25 at the age of 62.
In the interview O’Neal did with “Today’s” Meredith Viera, he also talked about how he is helping his son, Redmond, deal with the loss of his mother. Redmond, 24, is currently in prison for violating probation stemming from a previous drug conviction.

“It’s a little harder in a reformatory to grieve, so I told him to be patient and, when he got out, we’d grieve together,” O’Neal says. He also added that his son had a final phone conversation with his mother from jail in which he expressed regret for not being able to see her one last time.

Fawcett was with O’Neal for 15 years in the Eighties and Nineties before breaking up and getting back together in 2001.

So it’s fitting that he was the one who was with her as she finally passed away.

“We all kissed her goodbye and hugged her and held her and didn’t want to let her go,” he said.
