“Big” Ben Roethlisberger, the Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback who lead his team to a Super Bowl victory in February, isn’t looking so super this week.
The current Super Bowl champion was accused of sexually assaulting a woman named Andrea McNulty at a Harrah’s hotel and casino in Lake Tahoe, California in July 2008. According to the civil lawsuit, which was filed and served this weekend, Roethlisberger lured McNulty back to a hotel room and sexually assaulted her.
David Cornwell, Roethlisberger’s lawyer, released the following statement to the Associated Press. “Ben has never sexually assaulted anyone … The timing of the lawsuit and the absence of a criminal complaint and a criminal investigation are the most compelling evidence of the absence of any criminal conduct. If an investigation is commenced, Ben will cooperate fully and Ben will be fully exonerated.”
Other than that, no other real information is available yet and very few people have commented.
TMZ has another weird strand to the case, however. According to them McNulty has repeatedly visited a psychologist because of a traumatic incident. However, the incident wasn’t the alleged assault she accused Roethlisberger of. She actually invented a U.S. solider who she corresponded with, got engaged to and was then “killed” in action. This man didn’t exist, except in her head.
More news is sure to be coming out as the week continues.
