Bad Date Foods

By Pauline Lee on July 23rd, 2009

If you’re anticipating a smooch at the end of the night, you know that ordering a garlic dish is a no-no (unless you share of course). But did you know that there’s a slew of foods you should avoid on a first date? Making a love connection is difficult enough without making a blunder during dinner.  Online matchmaker eHarmony offers this list of what not to eat or drink:

Attack of the Cling-ons

Few things are less sexy than a toothy smile adorned with a piece of greenery. To sidestep this mishap, avoid clingy, leafy greens such as spinach, seaweed and mint.

Leave Corniness to your Date’s Jokes (j/k)

Summer doesn’t quite feel the same without a few good barbeques sprinkled throughout. However, if you’re on a date, steer clear of the tasty-yet-messy corn on the cob. Not only will it mess up your lipstick, the kernels will get lodged in your teeth and your hands will be covered in buttery grease.

Burying the Seeds of Love

Strawberry, sesame and poppy seeds are delicious, yet potentially disastrous. These tiny particles easily get trapped in between teeth and they’re so small, you may not even feel that they’re there.

No Bones About It

The flavorful sauce that makes ribs so tasty can be your worst enemy. If the restaurant provides bibs and moist towelettes, they are already anticipating a hot mess. Plus, a discarded pile of bones can look hauntingly like a cemetery, which isn’t the sexiest image to put in your date’s mind.

The Musical Fruit

If you remember that song from childhood, you already know why beans are bad for dates. Don’t forget… the more you eat, the more you toot.

*Just like any other  dating advice, it can all seem too restrictive and take the fun out getting to know someone. Don’t let this list stress you out. The most important thing is to put your best face forward and have a good time. Who knows, maybe laughing over B.B.Q sauce on your chin can bring you two closer.
