Celebrities and Unprotected Texts

Risky textual behavior is behind two of the latest celebrity break ups and scandals, which has me scratching my head as to why Hollywood’s hard hitters haven’t learned to either give up the cellular booty calls or at least cover their trails.

In February, Rhianna and Chris Brown got into an argument that resulted in Brown doing his best “Mike Tyson’s Punchout” impression to Rhianna’s “Glass Joe“, all allegedly over a text Brown received from a former lover.  Rhianna allegedly found the text, grew upset and tried to exit the vehicle in which they were driving, at which point Brown admittedly assaulted her.

More recently, Tony Romo dumped Jessica Simpson, allegedly over text messages Simpson received from former boyfriend, John Mayer.  The contents of the text messages could have been vague, like “I Heart Mom Jeans” or a little more direct, as in “Your Body is a Wonderland,” but either way, they left Romo fuming or at least provided an excuse to end the relationship, as if Jessica’s Papa Joe wasn’t enough in and of himself.

I’m not condoning texting exes, and by no means am I condoning Brown’s violence or Romo’s willingness to be photographed with Jessica wearing a dress with horizontal stripes, but are celebrities so out of touch with reality that they fail to see the importance of the “clear conversation” button on their cellular phones?  Are they so full of themselves that they don’t recognize that texting should be done away from prying eyes, or better yet, not at all, when exes are involved.

I don’t know about you, but I’m going to go put my phone in my pocket and turn it on vibrate.
