THE UGLY TRUTH

Let’s be honest, there’s nothing ugly about Katherine Heigl or Gerard Butler (the buff Aussie of 300 fame). Heigl stars as Abby Richter, a tough, controlling TV producer who scares away all her dates (including Kevin Connolly). She is then forced to work with Mike, a guy’s-guy who hosts a popular show in which he tells women the ugly truth (get it?) on how to snag men – and though she hates his guts, she lets him advise her on how to succeed in dating a hot doctor (Eric Winter). This romantic comedy offers a little more edge than most; it’s R rating guarantees some raunchy dialogue and sexy moments.
THE ORPHAN

I’m sure you’ve seen the poster or the trailer and its creepy tagline, “There’s something wrong with Esther.” After experiencing a miscarriage, Kate (Vera Farmiga) and John (Peter Sarsgaard) adopt young Esther (Isabelle Fuhrman) from an orphanage. Soon they realize that the girl is evil. I have to admit, I think this movie would scare the crap out of me…but if you like the weird creepy stuff, this is your flick.
G FORCE

In producer Jerry Bruckheimer’s first collaboration with guinea pigs, G-Force is a PG family comedy about government espionage experts who also happen to be tiny rodents (It could happen!). With the voices of Tracy Morgan, Bill Nighy, Penelope Cruz, Nicholas Cage, Zak Galifianakis and Sam Rockwell, this just might make my list…after I’m done with Gerard Butler, of course.

is this really the best movies have to offer this summer? looks pretty dreadful.
