Mayor’s Skimpy Dress Draws Complaints

In Silverton, Oregon, the mayor is turning heads and confusing folk about his choice of dress. Stu Rasmussen, the nations first and only transgender mayor, decided to attend a community youth gathering wearing a skimpy black dress.

Most of the locals know the mayor and are comfortable with the way he dresses, but a non-profit organization in town says it’s inappropriate and unlawful. “Silverton Together,” the non-profit group against Rasmussen filed a compliant with the state saying that he’s not abiding by dress code.

Rasmussen is standing by his wardrobe choice and says, “Why are we even having the discussion? I’m an adult. I’ll wear what I please.”

As free as America is, we should not let this man parade around in skimpy dresses. There should be a dress code amongst all public officials, whether you’re the president or a small town mayor.

This is America. I don’t think anyone has any right to tell anyone else what they can and cannot wear.

  2. It seems to me that Southwest Airlines bumped a passenger once because her dress was “too short”. The action backfired. Dress codes are largely unenforceable, and hopelessly arbitrary, not to mention sexist. That said, I do wish our most visible gender warrior would set a more restrained example. Cotton eyelet can be very cool in summer, and hosiery can be optional with sandals. But Stu is right: What has any of this got to do with the business of effectively managing the city of Silverton?

  3. First of all we keep hearing about Stu’s alleged skimpy dress, I have yet to see photo’s, not that it matters, it just seems to me that Stu’s opponents are grasping at straws.

  4. I grew up in this town and Stu is a really nice guy. He puts on the best Halloween shows at his house. I have never seen him in person since he sarted dressing like a woman. But I remember when he got boobs! He used to take our tickets at the old Silverton Theater. BUT I do believe this wouldn’t have been okay for a woman to wear, it shouldn’t be okay for him to wear.
