Dr. Conrad Murray was Michael Jackson’s personal doctor and, every night, he would give the King of Pop an intravenous drip to help him sleep.
According to the Associated Press, that “powerful anesthetic” might have been the cause of Jackson’s death.
On the day of Jackson’s death, Dr. Murray gave him propofol, the drug in question, shortly after midnight. Jackson had been taking it for a long time and relied on it to sleep. Murray’s lawyer, Edward Chernoff, said his client “happened to find” Jackson unconscious in the singer’s home in the morning and then tried to revive him.
The drug has been known to slow down the heart and suppress breathing so, in the medical community, it’s usually only used when the patient is attached to a whole bunch of machines that can monitor that kind of thing. Dr. Murray was not monitoring Jackson.
Officials say that Murray is the subject of a manslaughter investigation because of these accusations. His home and office have been raided for information pertaining to his caretaking of Jackson, which began last May.
When the toxicology reports are revealed, more information will fall into place. But everyone seems to think it’s obvious that Murray played some role in the passing of this pop legend.
