You want it that way and you got it. The Backstreet Boys announced Tuesday that they will release their ninth album called “This is Us” on October 6. They’ll tour North America in 2010 and the new single, “”Straight Through My Heart,” is currently on their MySpace page, myspace.com/backstreetboys.

Original group members Nick Carter, Howie Dorough, Brian Littrell and AJ McLean all share writing and producing credits on the album which also brought back some of the other people who helped Backstreet sell 76 million albums worldwide. Their last one though, “Unbreakable,” sold 1.7 copies across the world but only 150,000 in the United States.

“I think every artist who wants to be around for a long time and have staying power has to go through that transition,” Howie Dorough told Billboard Magazine. “Some records are going to be bigger than others. You’re always going to be compared to your biggest record. All you can do as an artist is just strive to make the best record you can and ride the roller coaster as it goes up and down.”

Though the Backstreet Boys enjoyed most of their success in the lats 90s and early 2000s, today’s music landscape is chock full of a similar kind of pop music: Jonas Brothers, Taylor Swift, etc. The big difference, though, is that the consumers of pop music – young kids – probably don’t want to listen to a bunch of 30 year old men sing it. They can’t relate to it.

But, Backstreet is back once again. Good for them.
