Cory Aquino Died

Cory Aquino, the first female president of the Philippines died this morning of cardiac arrest in a hospital in Manila. Aquino, was the a key player in the “People Power” uprising of 1986 that overthrew the 20 year rule of Ferdinand Marcos. She was 76 year-old.

Her real name was Corazon Aquino and she became active in politics after her husband was assisinated in 1983 by the Marcos Regime. Named Time’s Woman of the Year in 1986, Aquino did her best to recover the country from an influential dictatorship. She ended up leaving office in 1990.
