Talking Tacos with The Crew from LA’s Kogi BBQ Truck

kogi-truck-1
Meeting the folks behind the KOGI BBQ truck was one of the coolest interviews I’ve done so far as the Twirlit crew, including Tsega, Aysha, and I went to Alibi Room to chat with Mark Manguera, co-founder of Kogi BBQ, as well as Alice Shin who handles their social media from their blogs to Twitter, of course.

We chatted with Mark and Alice, asking them a bunch of questions from people who have their first dates at their Taco trucks to whether Alice knows how to rap the Kogi BBQ song. (You know I had to ask that…lol)

The LA Kogi BBQ truck has been featured in the New York Times, LA Times, CNN, NPR, and of course hundreds of food blogs including the ever-popular Serious Eats. What exactly are they known for? Well, unique and tasty dishes such as Kimchi Quesadillas and Kogi/Korean Short Rib Tacos.  Note: Kogi literally means “Fire Meat,” which is why its so savory and delicious.
The most interesting thing that they’ve done is use social media to promote their brand and create a frenzy that hasn’t been seen before with any food on wheels. And of course bring together various cultures into one delicious food that everyone in LA loves! Props to Chef Roy Choi for his Korean-Mexican taco creations!

Plans for expansion are already underway. Check out their TWITTER to see if the Kogi BBQ truck will be coming your way!
