Seinfeld fans have been desperate for a reunion since the show ended in 1998; there just aren’t enough shows about nothing. Well, dreams do come true. Jerry and the gang will meet again on Larry David’s other show, HBO’s Curb Your Enthusiasm. According to USA Today, the storyline will debut on September 20 and follow Larry David’s character as he teams up with Jerry to write a new episode of the classic show. Jerry will appear in five episodes, and the others (Michael Richards, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, and Jason Alexander) will be seen in at least four.
While Julia Louis-Dreyfus has had success with her CBS show The New Adventures of Old Christine (she’s up for another Emmy this year), Seinfeld‘s other stars haven’t quite been able to match their old status. Jason Alexander has stayed busy, but mostly as a guest star; Jerry has been raking in the dough with stand-up in Vegas; and Michael Richards all but blacklisted himself from entertainment after a notorious and offensive rant at a comedy club in LA.
The Curb storyline will provide a kind of behind-the-scenes look at Seinfeld: writing, rehearsals, read-throughs, etc., but it won’t take over the whole show: regular Curb cast members will still be present. Sound thrilling? Well, it is a show about nothing.
