By the time the “Twilight” saga reached its fourth and final book, “Breaking Dawn,” anticipation for author Stephanie Meyer’s work had reached a fever pitch.

With the pressure mounting, did she steal the story from a lesser known work?

TMZ is reporting that Meyer is being sued by an author named Jordan Scott saying that “Breaking Dawn” contains “striking and substantial similarity” to Scott’s book, “The Nocturne.” We won’t get into specifics, just in case people haven’t read the books or are waiting for the movies, but several scenes – and dialogue – are supposed to be almost identical. A representative for the “Twilight” author had this to say to TMZ. “The claim that ‘Breaking Dawn’ by Stephenie Meyer somehow infringes on an alleged book by someone named Jordan Scott is completely without merit. Neither Stephenie Meyer nor her representatives had any knowledge of this writer or her supposed book prior to this claim.”

So did Meyer ripoff Scott? Anything is possible. However, Meyer had already written three novels setting up the big finale of the fourth one. Plus, it’s not like stories about women, vampires, lust and all that stuff are exactly original (See “True Blood,” see Anne Rice, etc.) so there’s always parallel thinking.

But either way, it’s some nice ammunition for “Twilight” haters to use in upcoming arguments of which there are sure to be many. The film versions of the second two novels, “New Moon” and “Eclipse,” will be released in November and June respectively.
