Victoria ‘Posh Spice’ Beckham to Guest Judge on ‘American Idol’
Mere hours after the departure of Paula Abdul from “American Idol” made international headlines, rumors began swirling that producers had found a replacement: Victoria Beckham.
The truth of the matter is, according to People.com, that Beckham will actually just be making a “one-off appearance” on the upcoming season. She won’t be permanent because she’s too busy “overseeing her fashion line.”
Though she’s best known now as an international fashion symbol and wife of popular soccer star David Beckham, Victoria originally became famous as Posh Spice of the international singing group Spice Girls.
She and her husband are one of the most popular couples in the United Kingdom, with fame that rivals a Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie here in the United States. However, the pair haven’t come close to matching that notoriety here. But they keep trying. Two years ago, David Beckham signed a lucrative deal to play soccer for the Los Angeles Galaxy, hoping it would be a mutually beneficial agreement. And while Beckham’s signing did raise the profile of soccer in the States, at least a little, it didn’t have the massive impact they would hope.
However, with Victoria appearing on “American Idol,” even if it’s only for an episode, the Beckhams are sure to get another shot. “Idol” is watched by well over 20 million people per night.
