There was a noticeable disconnect between the fashions of the guys and girls on the red (er, grass) carpet of the 2009 Teen Choice Awards. It seems the girls thought they were going to the Academy Awards and the guys thought they were going to get a slice of pizza at a local Domino’s.
When an awards show is hosted by a trio of underage brothers (the JoBros) and the trophy is a giant surfboard, I imagine the attire to be casual, but put-together. For the girls, flirty summer dresses and sandals and for the guys maybe a nice button-down shirt with a vest and jeans. Apparently, almost none of the stars who attended the Teen Choice Awards got the memo.
Some of the girls got it right. Kristen Stewart showed up in an edgy black and white mini dress with a spiked skirt, a perfect fit for her Joan Jett hair. And, Selena Gomez looked adorable in a one-sleeved violet dress. Her hair, however, was a little to mature for the tween starlet.
With her bleached hair stringy and undone, a too-short black mini dress and Payless-looking heels, Britney Spears proved yet again that money can’t buy style. Hayden Panettiere was way too glam for the casual event, Megan Fox was a little too vampy (although, that’s her thing), and Kim Kardashian looked ridiculous in a short white dress and blonde hair!
It’s a good thing Robert Pattinson and Zac Efron are cute. Otherwise, the plaid shirts and jeans they wore to the awards show would never fly. Taylor Lautner looked very snazzy in a tie and vest, although, his entire outfit looked about one size too small.
Hopefully these kids will get it right next year, if they’re still around.
