Vodka, Ben & Jerry’s, sweatpants. We’ve all been there. I’m not sure if these movies will necessarily make you forget Mr. I Really Imagined Us Getting Married and Having Babies and Living Happily Ever After Even Though We Only Dated For A Few Months, but at least the characters are breaking up too. Ha!

1. THE BREAK-UP

Thank you, I do like to be called Captain Obvious. I find that people really love this one or hate it, but I’m a fan. Startingwith a break-up? I think it’s interesting and different, and we can all relate to Jennifer Aniston and Vince Vaughn as they try to drive each other crazy. Maybe you don’t walk around naked, but don’t tell me you haven’t uploaded a Look-At-How-Hot-I-Am-Without-You Facebook profile pic. You have!

2. HIGH FIDELITY

This one ends a little more happily, yay! There’s something empowering about going through your exes and realizing they’re all lame. Plus, 2000-era John Cusack is so attractive yet seemingly attainable. And if I was old enough to own records, I totally would have organized them biographically and then felt all depressed by going through them and reliving my relationships.

3. FORGETTING SARAH MARSHALL

What if you broke up with your girlfriend, went to a tropical resort to forget about her, and then ran into her with her horrible new boyfriend? Yeah, so Jason Segel wasn’t going for realism with this one – although rumors say the movie is about his real-life ex Linda Cardellini. You have to figure your break-up won’t be this bad!

4. ETERNAL SUNSHINE OF THE SPOTLESS MIND

What if you could erase your ex from your memory? Oh man. I don’t think I could do it…then I wouldn’t be able to sit around and look at ticket stubs, indulging in silly nostalgic thoughts. But Kate Winslet and Jim Carrey are so fantastic in this romantic yet delightfully twisted movie that it really makes you wonder.

5. ANNIE HALL

It won Oscars for Best Picture, Best Direction, Best Actress and Best Screenplay, so I guess it’s good or something. Annie Hall is classic, it’s hilarious, and if nothing else, the neurotic Woody Allen and Diane Keaton are bound to make you feel normal.

There's nothing broken about The Break-Up, which turns rom-com conventions on their side in free-wheeling fashion, and in doing so colorfully, wittily celebrates what it is about men and women that both attract one another and drives us crazy.
