Rachelle Spector Only Bright Spot for Phil Spector

Rachelle-Spector-1

Phil Spector’s not a big fan of prison, The Guardian reports. The infamous record producer who was convicted in April of murdering actress Lana Clarkson in 2003 is now serving a minimum sentence of 19 years at Corcoran State Prison in California, the very same prison that Charles Manson and Sirhan Sirhan were sent to. Phil, who is 69, calls the place a “snake pit,” adding that, “They’d kill you in here for a 39-cent bag of soup!”

The one bright spot of his sentence is his wife Rachelle Spector, who visits him weekly. “She’s a real trouper,” he says. She travels 800 miles round trip to see him, bringing food so that Phil doesn’t have to eat in the prison dining hall. “The less I see of the inmates, the better and safe I feel,” he explains.

Rachelle, who is just 29, still lives in the same house where Lana Clarkson was found dead. (Creepy, right?) According to ABC News, she’s vice president and CFO of her husband’s music companies. Originally from Pennsylvania, Rachelle moved to Los Angeles at the age of 21, hoping to become a rock star.  She met Phil at a restaurant in 2003 and has stayed by his side ever since, including each day of the grueling murder trial.

She still claims her husband is innocent; “I feel like I’m on a mission,” she says. “This is far greater and a bigger challenge than I ever imagined. But it’s totally positive, protesting my husband’s innocence, restoring his name, honor, legend.” She might have better luck with the rock star thing.
