A few months back I attended a Girls in Tech Beauty Event with a friend of mine and was given a gift bag filled with all kinds of goodies and nestled in the bottom of the bag was Cat Cosmetics Smoulder Shadow/Liner Duo. At the event, I was told that this product will “change my life” so when i got home I was more that a little curious. The Smoulder Shadow/Liner Duo is a dual sided pencil that has a bronze colored cream eyeshadow stick on one side and a smaller black eyeliner pencil on the other. I usually don’t like duo pencils but this one is a little different and while it might not have exactly “changed my life” it certainly has become part of my daily make up routine.
Let’s start with the shadow side, it’s a beautiful bronze/gold shade that I think almost any skin tone can pull off. The formula is very smooth and it glides on the eyelid easily. It as also very blendable either with an eyeshadow brush or your finger. I’ve even layered it over and under regular powder eye shadow without creasing or smudging the powder shadows. Once the shadow dries it stays in place. No creasing or smudging and the pigment is buildable so you can do a very sheer wash of or a very bold line as well.
Now the eyeliner side, it’s an automatic black pencil that smokes and smudges beautifully. You can still do really bold eyeliner with it but I think it looks better if you smudge it along the lash line. Like the shadow once it sets there is no creasing or smudging. It’s water resistant and you will need cleanser or make up remover to remove it completely but the lasting power of the color makes it all worth the occasional raccoon eye in the morning.
The only complaints ( and I really wouldn’t call them complaints) are that there is no way of keeping track of the lids. The lids don’t “hug” each other, meaning that you can’t stick the lid on the end of the other side and must keep the lids in a safe place. Since I often use this product on the go, I do worry about losing the lids and find myself looking for them often. The other “complaint” is more colors please! Maybe a Purple/Black combo or a Green/Black one. The color combination possibilities are endless and the formulation of this pencil is great and I would love to see other colors join the line.
