I’ve been watching Entourage for a few years now. It started with a job I had a couple of years ago; everyone I worked with watched it, so if I wanted to be part of the lunchtime conversation, I had to, too.
Quickly, my husband and I got addicted, and now it’s at the top of our Tivo list. But an unexpected thing happened to me last season: THE MUSIC.
I have rarely, if ever, in my life been the type to notice music in a movie or TV show. I’m far from a music snob. In fact, aside from the rare new Lily Allen album, my musical tastes appear to have arrested in ’90s vagina rock. If anything, I notice how bad songs in movies and TV are. But Entourage, oh sweet Entourage, how you are opening up brave new worlds to me.
To wit, a few of my all time faves:
5. Season 5, Episode 60, “ReDOMption.” Neil Young’s “Only Love Can Break Your Heart” smilingly plays in the background as Alan Gray – the man in between Vince and his role in Smokejumpers – has a rage-induced heart attack on the golf course.
4. Season 5, Episode 66, “Return to Queens Boulevard.” The season finale opens with the De La Soul’s “Me, Myself & I” behind the drink away their troubles back in New York, where they’ve gone to lick their wounds. Just fun.
3. Season 6, Episode 68, “Amongst Friends.” Vince is back, baby, and our hearts happily swell for him while he and the boys walk the red carpet at the Gatsby premiere as “Dance Tonight” by Paul McCartney plays.
2. Season 6, Episode 67, “Drive.” The season premiere ends with The Verve’s “Lucky Man” mocking Vince, who (like the rest of the guys) might be back on top, but is rattling around his giant house alone, and lonely. Nice.
1. Season 5, Episode 61, “Gotta Look Up to Get Down.” Ari gets onto his plane at Van Nuys Airport and Vince gets on the other. Radiohead’s “Fake Plastic Trees” comes up as each man heads off into the sunset, in different directions. There is nothing better. Don’t believe me…check it out:
