While the fight to legalize gay marriage continues across the country, Marc Jacobs is showing his support for equal rights with two new limited edition t-shirts.
Too bad the message tee is a tired form of self-expression that’s become less of a statement piece and more of an annoying cliche. Let’s see, thanks to this trend we know Jessica Simpson eats meat, Pauly Shore thinks he should be president and Paris Hilton loves her life. What revelations. And who could forget the Team Aniston vs. Team Jolie t-shirt war?
I do respect Marc Jacobs’ opinion on the topic, but why a lame t-shirt? Furthermore, only one of the shirts clearly declares support for gay rights. The other simply states, “I pay my taxes. I want my rights.” A fair demand, but nevertheless useless when printed on the front of a shirt. I guess it was designed for all the conservative fashionistas who want to believe Marc Jacobs is demanding tougher immigration laws and not rights for gay couples.
If Marc Jacobs wants society to be more progressive, he’s going to have to come up with a better idea than creating another obnoxious message t-shirt to add to the slogan soup seen on the streets these days. After all, how many of the people wearing those shirts actually believe in what their clothes are saying?
