Tosh.Whoa

A few weeks ago I was in Chicago visiting some friends, one of whom is a comedian/web geek. Not surprising, then, that he was one of the first fans of the marvelous Tosh.0, an awesome new Comedy Central show hosted by comedian Daniel Tosh which culls the best bits of viral web wonder every week for some fun skewering.
The show is so simple it makes you (at least me) mad you didn’t think of it yourself: Find the funniest bits of user-generated content on the web and then make fun of them. It’s cheap to make (it’s basically Tosh standing in front of a green screen with a live studio audience) and the content creates itself.

The show relies on two things:
1) That the world keeps videotaping itself doing stupid things and then putting it online
2) Tosh is funny.

Luckily, there’s no worries on either of these. I’ll admit, I haven’t been as much into the up and coming comic scene since the years of VH1‘s Stand Up Spotlight eons ago, but how the talented Tosh could have gotten by me until just now makes me sad. He’s got a cute/quirky/enthusiastic puppy thing that allows him the say the evilest things without seeming mean. And he’s also just amusing.

I know this sounds like I’m on the take (would that I were), but I’m not. It’s just a nice, quick, half hour of light (but not entirely evil) fun, and as far as I’m concerned, those are hard to come by. A nice little Thursday night aperitif, if you will. And I’m just a do-gooder, trying to spread the joy.

Here’s more info about Tosh:
