Construction-Worker Chic…Really?

It’s obvious now what construction workers are trying to do when the hoot and holler at all the pretty girls walking by the job site. They’re trying to get these ladies to notice their under-appreciated fashion sense. And, finally, it’s paid off with the upcoming release of a new designer work boot.
This is really the most pointless collaboration between two brands (French label, Colette and Timberland) in the history of fashion. Let’s start with the fact that the product of the collaboration is not that different from the original boot! Ok, so the Colette boot has a blue pad around the ankle and blue laces. Big deal. Oh, and the Colette name is printed on the tongue. Who cares? Those minor changes are worth the $330 price tag? I think not!
Then there is the blaringly obvious fact that these are work boots were are dealing with here. You know, boots designed for construction workers to wear while digging ditches, pouring cement and hammering boards….all tasks that require protection from injury. Last time I checked, a shopping spree at Barney’s didn’t require protective footwear.
It’s also completely ridiculous that the boots come pre-distressed. So, it looks like you actually did work, without having to lift a finger. I equate this to the pre-ripped jeans look. It is equally ridiculous to pay $300 for busted-looking boots as it is to pay $200 for busted-looking jeans. I believe it’s called being a poser when you wear clothes just to be trendy, when you actually have no investment in the lifestyle behind the look.
Thankfully, only 40 pairs of these boots are being produced, halting any possibility that this fashion flop will spread too far.
