Jessica Biel is wreaking havoc on computers everywhere – without even trying. According to PC World magazine, the latest annual report from security company McAfee found that Biel is the biggest name on the Internet for spyware, adware, malware, spam, phishing, and viruses. If you search for her name online, there’s a one in five chance that you’ll get a somethin’ dirty.
This is good news for Brad Pitt, who took the title last year with the same one-in-five statistic. Since then, he’s fallen to #10. Following Biel this year is Beyonce, who was also #2 last year. (She wins the prize of appearing in the top five more than anyone else.) Jennifer Aniston is another dangerous celeb; if you search for “Jennifer Aniston screensavers,” you’ll have a 40% chance of getting a virus.
The most dangerous couple award goes to model Gisele Bundchen and football player Tom Brady. The phrase “Gisele Bundchen Photos” is notorious for taking you to suspicious sites, while her husband’s name pulls up video downloads that contain trojans.
The cure for these celeb illnesses is called SiteAdvisor, a technology that determines if a site is safe before your computer will access it. It’s part of McAffee’s virus protection package, but can also be downloaded by itself for free. Celeb searchers are easy targets because they way they look for news, photos, screensavers, etc. has remained the same over the past few years, while viruses have become more sophisticated. Of course, another cure is to stop being obsessed with celebrities.
