It’s a pretty gruesome weekend at the box office, with two horror movies as the only big new releases.

HALLOWEEN II

H2-1

More like Halloween 98482 – how many times are we going to name movies after this holiday? Rocker-turner-writer/director Rob Zombie’s at it again with this creepy tale of serial killer Michael Myers (Tyler Mane) goes after Laurie Strode (Scout Taylor-Compton). The movie picks up right where the last one left off, with Laurie being taken to the hospital after supposedly killing Myers. SURPRISE – he’s back – and determined to wreak havoc on the hospital.

THE FINAL DESTINATION

Here’s another sequel, although instead of calling it “Final Destination 4,” the makers of this one got real creative with the word “the.” Nick O’Bannon (Bobby Campo) has disturbing visions of people dying – and when he’s still alive, he thinks he’s cheated Death. False! Death chases him and his girlfriend Lori (Shantel VanSanten) throughout the movie, and as usual, people die one-by-one in a number of horrific ways. Bonus: you can see all the blood and guts in 3-D this time!

TAKING WOODSTOCK

This heartwarming comedy from director Ang Lee opens in limited release this weekend, giving some lucky urbanites a break from the gore. It tells the story of Elliot Tiber (Demetri Martin), the guy who thought it might be fun to have a big music festival in a field in upstate New York. And thus Woodstock was born. Emile Hirsch (yum) also stars.
