Death to Over-priced Denim!

This is a rant! A rant about denim that costs nearly as much as a month’s rent (that’s only a slight exaggeration)! I have accepted $180 premium denim. But, jeans that cost more than that? No way!

Denim is a wardrobe staple. So, yes, it’s OK to spend a little extra money to get a quality pair of jeans. But the premium denim business is getting out of hand. But honestly, there’s not a lot you can do with denim. Certainly, there’s nothing you can do to denim to make it worth $500. Its cotton. Often ripped and distressed. In fact, that’s another thing that doesn’t make sense. It’s always the most ripped and tattered jeans that are the most expensive. What gives?

What got me started on this rant is a Barney’s fall denim catalog that was sent to my house a couple days ago. Most of the jeans were priced as expected, all coming in just under $200. Then I saw them…a pair of $484 PRPS jeans. Absurd! After doing a little online research, I found this wasn’t an isolated incedence.

New cropped styles from AG jeans are going for $349. See what I mean? You get less jean for more money! Denim line R13, which I’d never heard of until now, sells several pairs of jeans between $288 to $334. Even Justin Timberlake’s William Rast jeans can cost up to $250.

Other over-priced denim offenders include True Religion, Acne and Ever. That’s right. I’m calling you all out! Enough is enough. Down with expensive denim!
