Can you be preggers – and posh? Project Runway said yes last night with its second challenge for the contestants of season six: Design a form-fitting, stylish look for supermodel Rebecca Romijn – who just happens to be pregnant with twins.

It was many of the designers’ first times dealing with big bellies; one dude even strapped a fake tummy on the mannequin sideways at first. But many designed beautiful dresses, from evening wear to to casual day looks. With the open-ended nature of the challenge, I expected there to be a big twist in the middle – but everything seemed to go as planned.

Althea Harper said she tried to imagine herself pregnant and was praised for her long, navy jersey gown with flattering ribbons and bands that revealed the shoulders and crossed in the back. Judges also liked the intricate details of Louise Black’s lingerie-inspired short red gown. Although it was a bit sexy for a pregnant woman, the tiered bottom made it wearable, and Rebecca said she could see herself wearing it on a date with her husband.

SPOILER ALERT: The winner of the challenge was 24 year-old Shirin Askari, who made a modest yet form-fitting maroon gown with inventive stitching above the belly. She also had time for a cool black coat with a printed lining.

We weeded out one weirdo last week (Ari Fish), and that trend continued. While Mitchell Hall was close to being eliminated for his sloppy shorts, the judges decided to oust Malvin Vein for his weird and unflattering “chicken and egg” concept.
