The September Issues: The Magazines to Buy and Avoid

It’s late August and the September issues have begun to fill the shelves of newsstands everywhere. But, to be perfectly honest, W Magazine is the only September issue that doesn’t disappoint.

First of all, the cover actually features a model (Kate Moss). And the cover story is about a fashion designer (Prada). This is practically unheard of these days. Most fashion magazines (i.e. all the other September issues) feature actresses or musicians plugging their next movie or album. What W gives you is an awesome feature on Prada and a fashion ode to Woodstock. It’s the only must-buy!

Any self-respecting fashionista will of course pick up the September issue of Vogue. It’s practically a reflex. To be quite honest, I’ve been pretty disappointed with Vogue’s last couple September issues, starting with the Sienna Miller issue in 2007 and this especially this year’s Charlize Theron cover. All I can say is…boring! Other snoozes include Glamour and Harper’s Bazaar. But that’s pretty typical.

Elle tries to be edgy by putting Jennifer Aniston on the cover….in leather. It doesn’t work. But pick up the issue anyway. Elle usually has a lot of great fashions on the inside.

Marie Claire features an alluring Ashley Olsen, all grown up. She’s really made her mark on the fashion industry (both as a designer and style icon)  in the past couple years, so I think it’s appropriate that she’s featured on the biggest issue of the year.

And just forget about InStyle. That’s one magazine I almost never have the urge to read. Not even in September.
