We’ve all been there. Halfway through your day a glance in the mirror reveals that your eyeliner is no longer above your eyes where you oh-so-carefully left it that morning, but is now down around your bottom lashes, under your eyes and possibly on your temples too. I know, I’ve been there. Nothing ruins beautifully applied make up worse than running eyeliner and of course it is one of the most difficult to touch up without disturbing the rest of your face. I’ve found that the best way to prevent running eyeliner is to use an eyeliner sealer. A lot of cosmetic companies are coming out with eyeliner sealers and so I thought I would share with you some of the best ones I’ve found.
What is an eyeliner sealer? It’s a clear, usually unscented liquid that can be used in two different ways. You can swipe a little over your regular pencil or liquid liner and it creates a thin waterproof seal locking your liner into place all day or you can use them to transform any eyeshadow you have into a liquid liner. This option works the best. Once it dries the color is set and will last all day. Being able to use your eyeshadow as a liner will open up numerous eyeliner color possibilities and is an inexpensive way to update your look without having to buy multiple products.
My Ultimate Favorite is Paula Dorf Transformer. It’s $20.00 for a half ounce size and comes in a small plastic bottle similar to a Visine bottle. This particular sealer really adds color depth to the shadow you are “transforming” so you can really create some bold eyeliner colors and works with almost any eyeshadow or powder I’ve tried. The result is a solid line of color that will stay in place all day. It also prevents “transferring” which is when your eyeliner copies itself on your upper eyelid when you open your eye. Even though it’s waterproof it washes away easily with cleanser and water.
Make Up For Ever Eye Seal is for you ladies that want some SERIOUS lasting power. It comes in a similar package to the Paula Dorf, works in the same fashion and is also priced at $20.00. I find that this one works the best if you want to get a super defined line in a really bright, bold color. Yellow, Pink, Blue and other primary color powders work well with this sealer but when I tell you it is waterproof I mean it. You actually will have to use an oil-based make up remover first then wash to remove it completely. Available exclusively at Sephora.
While both of the above sealers require you to use a separate eye liner brush Too Faced Liquif-Eye is designed like a more traditional liquid eye liner in that it comes in the ink style bottle with a felt tip wand attached to the cap. The lasting power and color depth is not as strong with this sealer as with the other two but if you want a sheer wash of color this is a good choice. One thing you must remember using this sealer is that you must wipe the wand clean after each use to avoid any messy mix ups and to prevent color from getting into the bottle. At $17.50 it is the least expensive of the three.
