Whitney Houston on Good Morning America

We’ll always love Whitney Houston. Despite the drugs and the drama and the dumb reality show with Bobby, the woman can still belt it out like no other. She appeared on Good Morning America this morning, performing four songs: “Million Dollar Bill” and “I Look to You” from her brand new album, as well as classics “My Love Is Your Love” and “I’m Every Woman.”

New York City’s Central Park was filled with thousands of emotional fans, many of whom chanted “Whitney, Whitney” as they waited for hours in the scorching sun for her to come onstage. They’ve also been waiting five years for this album, since the last one she released was a Christmas album in 2004. Whitney’s mom was watching proudly, too. For home viewers, her visit to GMA marks her first television appearance in seven years.

Whitney, who is the only artist ever to have seven consecutive multi-platinum albums, also did a brief interview. “I’m so overwhelmed,” she said of the intense fan response.  ”The love, the support, your prayers - mean so much to me. And I love you all for coming to say hello to me, that you love me and I love you back. I never left!” She also said that her faith and the love and support of her family got her through the tough times she’s had over the last few years.

Whitney also did a long interview with Oprah, which will air Monday, September 14.

Check out one of the songs, “Million Dollar Bill,” that she performed this morning. It was written by Grammy award winning artist Alicia Keys and produced by Hip hop producer, Swizz Beatz.
