CW’s “Melrose Place” Premieres Tuesday

By Amanda Pendolino on September 4th, 2009

OMG, CW, you’d better not disappoint me this time. Last year, the premiere of the 90210 remake was surrounded by massive hype - and then when we realized the show was unwatchable, and it all deflated like a punctured pool toy. But I’m remaining optimistic about this year’s remake of Melrose Place which premieres Tuesday at 9 on the CW.

I’ll be honest, my parents wouldn’t even let me watch the original since I was so young and impressionable back when it premiered in 1992. But maybe that’s better, since I don’t have all the nostalgia and high expectations. I just want something sexy and fun. Maybe the LA version of Gossip Girls, without Dan and Serena and the bad voice-over?

There are reasons to be hopeful: Aspiring filmmaker Jonah Miller is played by Michael Rady, the hottie from Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants and Greek (how they made him so nerdy-ugly on Greek is beyond me). The show also starts with a fun mystery: when newcomer Violet Foster (Ashlee Simpson-Wentz) arrives at the swanky apartment complex, the first thing she sees is a dead body floating in the pool! David Breck (super-hottie Shaun Sipos) is the main suspect, but it seems that everybody has a motive. This is a major difference from the original, which didn’t have the mysterious twist.

Will the show be good? Put me down as a solid maybe.

Not sure why they didn't name the show something different, as it appears to be quite different. I guess they're hoping the instant name recognition will draw in old fans? Probably right.
