DJ AM: A Quiet Memorial Service

While Michael Jackson was being laid to rest at a lavish, highly publicized funeral, people paid tribute to the late DJ AM across town at a quieter but well-attended memorial service.

MTV News reports that hundreds of family members, friends and fans of the celebrity DJ (Adam Goldstein) turned out at the Hollywood Palladium last night, less than one week after the 36-year-old was found dead in his New York apartment of an apparent drug overdose. Famous attendees included his former fiancee Nicole Richie, as well as Lindsay Lohan, Samantha Ronson, John Mayer, Eric Dane, Rebecca Gayheart, Robert Downey Jr., Dr. Drew Pinsky, Tom Arnold, Jon Favreau and Mark McGrath.

The service lasted two and a half hours, but like at MJ’s funeral, the press wasn’t allowed inside. At this service, it was because organizers wanted to honor the structure of a 12-step meeting and keep everything anonymous. We do know that AM’s girlfriend told the crowd, “He was my soulmate and now he is my soul. He is my amazing grace.”

The Palladium seemed to be an appropriate venue, since it was the first place DJ AM played after he survived a plane crash with Travis Barker of Blink-182 last September.

A cause of death has not officially been announced, as the New York City medical examiner’s office is conducting further toxicology tests.
