Obama’s Speech to Kids

“What you make of your education will decide nothing less than the future of this country.” That’s one of the pearls of wisdom President Obama will share with the nation’s kiddos today as part of his highly controversial speech broadcast to schools across the country.

CNN reports that Obama will speak to kids at 12 pm EDT from a school in Arlington, VA. Conservatives have been freaking out about the speech since it was announced, fearing that Obama would use the platform to push some kind of partisan agenda.

Yes, conservatives. Obama is brainwashing your kids, convincing them that maybe we should do something about a health care system that ranks below Costa Rica. He’s going to call them to action on their bikes and skateboards and we’re all effing doomed.

The administration is a bit dumbfounded at how this became such a controversy. White House press secretary Robert Gibbs told reporters Monday that “it’s a sad state of affairs that many in this country politically would rather start an ‘Animal House’ food fight rather than inspire kids to stay in school.”

Some of the uproar stemmed from a proposed lesson plan created by the Education Department to accompany the address. An initial version of the plan recommended that students write letters to themselves discussing “what they can do to help the president.” But after everyone freaked out, the lesson plans were scrapped.
