Apple Announcement – Can You Download the Beatles?

Nerd alert! Rumors are swilring about what might be announced at Apple’s big media event today. According to Wired Magazine, the possibilities include a delay for the new camera-equipped iPods, the death of the iPod Classic, a revised App Store, iTunes in the cloud and the possibility of the Beatles’ library on iTunes.

It seems likely that Apple will upgrade the iPod Nano and iPod Touch to include cameras. There have been technical issues when they’ve been tested, but Apple will probably move forward with the new feature and just release them later than planned. The iPod Classic might get discontinued because the hard-drive-based device is kinda sentimental and can hold more music than any other iPod, but it seems silly to upgrade it with a camera since the other kinds of flash-driven models are getting cheaper.

Wired also figures that Apple will announce it’s reorganizing the iPhone App store, which offers over 65,000 apps for download. However, that’s probably not the biggest announcement at the conference. It’s also possible Apple could talk about putting iTunes in “the cloud,” or streaming it all over the Internet instead of saving everything on your hard drive.

Some speculate that The Beatles’ songs would finally be for sale in the iTunes Store because the new Beatles-themed Rock Band video game is also being released today, on 9/9/09. It’s still a big maybe, but the fact that there are illegally leaked version on BitTorrent seems to be a good sign. W00t!
