Tyra Banks Goes Back to Her Natural Hair (Video)

“No wigs, extensions, no nothing.” That’s how Tyra Banks has described the new look of her hair, according to the Associated Press. Her daytime talk show’s fifth season (really? yowza) premiered yesterday on the CW, and she went back to her roots.

“It’s just me coming straight out of the shower with wet hair. My hairdresser’s going to do my hair live on stage,” said Tyra, who interviewed women about their own hair insecurity. Her goal was to reassure them about how attractive their hair is naturally and “ask them to be brave enough to show it to everybody on national television.”

Her show, which dropped her last name and is now just called The Tyra Show won a Daytime Emmy last week. It moves from syndication to the CW network this season, airing weekdays at 4 pm EDT.

She says it’s part of her mission to help redefine the emotional issue of beauty for women. As much as I like this concept, it’s always hard to hear this from a supermodel. But you have to give her some kudos for bringing plus-sized and racially diverse models onto America’s Next Top Model. She’s also giving shorter women a chance this year, featuring only contestants 5′7” and under. That show’s new season premieres tonight at 8 on the CW.
