Ellen Degeneres a New Judge on “American Idol”

Ever since Paula Abdul tweeted that she was leaving her post as hysterically emotional judge on American Idol, the world has been holding its breath in anticipation of who the new judge would be. Time to exhale – and scratch your head in confusion – since it’s comedienne Ellen Degeneres, according to E Online.

“I’m thrilled to be the new judge on American Idol,” Ellen said in a statement. “I’ve watched since the beginning, and I’ve always been a huge fan. So getting this job is a dream come true, and think of all the money I’ll save from not having to text in my vote.”

Don’t get me wrong, I love Ellen, especially her goofy dance moves. But I wonder if she knows anything about music? Then again, even if Paula Abdul was qualified, Ellen will probably give more coherent opinions – and we can certainly count on her to be funny. Ellen seems to think she can handle it: ”I have not missed one episode of that show, and I love music,” she said.  “Hopefully I’m the people’s point of view, because I’m just like you. I’m looking at it as a person who’s going to buy the music, and who’s going to relate to that person.”

Ellen will be joining Simon Cowell, Kara DioGuardi and Randy Jackson for the show’s ninth season once the audition rounds (which will include a bunch of special celebrity appearances) are over. And don’t worry – she’ll continue with her own show.
