Maura Tierney Drops out of “Parenthood”

Maura Tierney has dropped out of NBC’s upcoming show Parenthood because it will conflict with her treatments for breast cancer, The New York Times reports. The beloved actress from ER and NewsRadio was set to star alongside Peter Krause and Craig T. Nelson in the TV remake of the 1989 movie of the same name, and it was originally going to be released this fall.

NBC announced back in July that it would delay Parenthood‘s premiere until next year so that Maura could undergo treatments, and production of the show was delayed for eight weeks. Unfortunately, her treatments conflicted with the production of the show and her role is going to be recast.

“While we are saddened that Maura Tierney won’t be able to continue in her current role in ‘Parenthood,’ our main concern is for her quick and full recovery,” NBC said. ”Our thoughts and best wishes are with her.”

Back in July, Maura said that the tumor in her breast required surgery, but that her doctors said her condition was “very treatable.”

Of course I want Maura to get better, but I am saddened by the news; she was surely to be one of the highlights of the show, which is getting good buzz around Hollywood. The role Maura leaves behind is that of 38 year-old single mom Sarah, who takes her kids and moves back in with her parents.
