I have to say I was a little disappointed when the designers found out their “clients” were their usual models on Project Runway last night. In previous seasons, they had to design prom dresses for teenagers and plus-sized outfits for each other’s moms – both of which were way more difficult. Even still, designing outfits to make models stand out at an industry party proved to be a fun episode.
This seasons has two exciting youngins: Althea Harper and Carol Hannah, who are both now 24. While most of the designers opted for dresses, Althea took the idea of a suit and made it really modern and funky, with a cropped jacket and short, high-waisted bubble skirt. Carol made a gorgeous asymmetrical dress with a deep purple top and black patterned pencil skirt on the bottom. She was happy the judges understood thejuxtaposition of soft and hard that is her design asthetic.
Logan disappointed everyone with his misguided use of lace and bright blue fabric, concocting a cheap-looking dress that made everyone think of “smurf prom.” Qristyl also missed the mark with her plain black dress that made her model look older (and definitely did not help her stand out among a sea of beautiful girls).
To be honest, my favorite part of the show was Heidi Klum and her usual silly comments. Last night she asked one of the “edgier” models, “Do you have the kitty cat inside of you?”
