This can be a touchy subject. Nobody likes to admit that they have less than perfect skin and body acne can be an embarrassing and sometimes painful affliction not likely to come up in your day to day conversions. Body acne is actually very common and most of us will experience some form of breakout somewhere other than the face at some time in our lives for. First things first, body acne is not caused by a lack of hygiene but rather a build up of sweat, perspiration and dead skin that is trapped in your pores that can result in blackheads, whiteheads and even in more severe cases cystic acne anywhere you have oil glands (scalp, face, underarms, chest and groin).
The Peter Thomas Roth website explains it best without getting too technical:
Blemish Buffing Beads Body Wash is uniquely formulated with salicylic acid 1% acne treatment to clear up and help prevent acne blemishes without overdrying or irritation. Innovative moisturizing beads release nourishing vitamins A, C, E and pro vitamin B5 when massaged into the skin. This luxurious body wash with a fresh, clean scent leaves skin clear and flawless.
Salicylic Acid is a lot gentler to the skin than a Benzoyl Peroxide based body wash and this body wash is gentle enough to use every day. The little beads embedded are not really for exfoliating, the Salicylic Acid is the exfoliator, but they are full a moisturizing element to prevent over drying of the skin. They begin to melt when they touch the skin so you are not all gritty. The scent is nice and subtle and doesn’t smell anything like an acne treatment so you won’t smell like a medicine chest. I still suggest a moisturizer afterward even though it leaves you pretty soft.
Of course, if you have a really severe case of body acne you should see your doctor to rule out any other underlying causes for your breakouts. It could be hormonal or an indication that something is off balance but for the occasional body breakout or have really oily skin this is a good solution to try and clear up your bacne. Another added benefit, the Salicylic Acid also helps prevent ingrown hairs just don’t use it right after shaving.
