Kanye West’s douchebagery may just be the best thing that ever happened to Jay Leno. After stealing the mic from award winner Taylor Swift at the MTV Video Music Awards Sunday night, Kanye faced a backlash of criticism (rumor has it that Obama even called him a “jackass”). He posted an apology on his blog (can someone explain to me how he writes such eloquent raps and yet his blog sounds like it was written by a 12-year-old?), but clearly more needed to be done.

Jay Leno, who was replaced by Conan O’Brien on The Tonight Show and given a new show at 10 pm, just returned to the airwaves this week. Last night he featured Jerry Seinfeld, Jay-Z, Rihanna and Kanye West. The group had all planned on just performing, but given Kanye’s new status as the enemy America loves to hate (have YOU joined a Facebook group yet?), Kanye decided to address his fans and haters. Check out the video:

Fans cheered as he came out, all dressed in black, and looking (could it be?) remorseful. “My entire life, I’ve only wanted to give and do something that I felt was right,” Kanye said. “I immediately knew in this situation that it was wrong and it wasn’t a spectacle, it was actually someone’s emotions that I stepped on, and it was rude. Period. I’d like to be able to apologize to her in person.”

You know, not that I'm going to excuse is behavior, but I do think he does feel bad about the situation and really didn't realize the ramifications of his outburst. He just gets a little too caught up in the moment and doesn't think ahead is what I think. Which isn't great, of course, and can lead to rude behavior from time to time (obviously). Then again, within the world of Pop Culture, is it really oh so bad to have some guy with a big ego make things interesting from time to time? Even if he is shooting himself in the foot in the process? Just some thoughts.

I agree. He asked for forgiveness many times over now.

Why is he even given an invitation to these events, he has no apparent talent, he cannot conduct himself in public. If this is all the music industry has to offer, than it should close shop.
