I know what you’re thinking…pirates are SO two years ago. But actually, pirates are also SO tomorrow, since it’s International Talk Like a Pirate Day, 2009 edition! Wow, I feel ridiculous even writing that…but you have to admit, talking like a pirate is fun. And I’ve got some other ideas of how you might celebrate this holiday:

1. Pirate movie marathon! Yes, you can watch those Johnny Depp flicks Pirates of the Carribean, but you also could check out the underrated live action Peter Pan starring my Friday Night Lightsfave Jeremy Sumpter (though younger) as the famed literary hero. Or maybe you’re in the mood for the 1991 Dustin Hoffman/Robin Williams classic, Hook.

2. Swimming! Why not pretend to Walk the Plank around someone’s pool? I know the ocean is more authentic, but I’m not sure how you might get a plank over there…and I think jumping off public piers is discouraged…let me get back to you on that one.

3. Telling Really Bad Pirate Jokes. This is definitely a staple of the holiday. Here’s one website full of them, and you can even follow them on TwiteRRRR (get it?) to live EVERY day like it’s International Talk Like a Pirate Day. The key to creating your very own pirate jokes: the letter R.
