Woman Implanted with Wrong Embryo (VIDEO)
It sounds like a bad sci fi movie. Carolyn Savage is pregnant with the wrong baby; after undergoing in-vitro fertilization, the fertility clinic she had visited informed her that they had accidentally implanted her with another couple’s embryo.
“We had been delivered the worst news of our life,” Carolyn’s husband Sean Savage told the TODAY Show’s Meredith Vieira. At first, Carolyn didn’t even believe Sean when he relayed the unfortunate message; she insisted he must be joking.

Carolyn and Sean turned to in-vitro fertilization after experiencing a series of miscarriages while trying to have a third child. It worked; 10 months ago, Carolyn gave birth to their daughter Mary Kate after ten years of trying. Since there were viable embryos left over, the Savages froze them for future pregnancy attempts. But when they went back to the clinic to have their fourth child, the wrong embryo was implanted - forcing them to make a difficult choice: “We had an option to terminate,” Carolyn explained. “And he made it clear to us that if we chose to continue the pregnancy, we would have to give the baby back.”
Carolyn chose to remain pregnant and carry the child for the other couple, and now she’s due in less than two weeks. “The hardest part is the delivery,” she said. “We want a moment to say hello and goodbye.”
